Scottish Opera – La Boheme 27th February – 13th March 2010 Tony award-winning director Stewart Laing's modern twist on this perennial masterpiece of Italian opera sees Paris' vibrantly shabby bohemian quarter relocated to 21st-century New York. Puccini's lusciously scored romantic tragedy follows the story of a group of penniless artists and the poet Rodolfo's love affair with the terminally ill Mimi. Conducted by Francesco Corti and featuring soloists Celine Byrne, Avi Klemberg and Nadine Livingstone.
Aye Write - Glasgow's Book Festival5th - 13th March 2010 Welcome to the fifth Aye Write! Book Festival. Once again we have a programme packed with great writers and thinkers and some fantastic debates. This year - one of the most momentous for a decade and more - we face a UK wide general election against a backdrop of financial crisis and looming environmental problems. We’ve introduced some longer sessions this year looking at some of these critical issues: the future of money, globalisation, Scottish education, Scotland itself and the Left.

West End Festival 12th - 27th June Various Venues It has since become the biggest festival in Glasgow's calendar with events running for 16 days in June. It has been used as a model for other festival start-ups, as with minimal local authority or Scottish Arts Council funding, and has grown with each festival. Its centrepiece carnival parade is the largest carnival event in the UK after Notting Hill in London. In 2006 the parade day ran congruently with the Glasgow Mela; organisers billed it as "Scotland's Mardi Gras" and an estimated 100,000 people took to the streets and parks. Glasgow River Festival25th-26th July River Clyde Events, both wet and dry, feature in Glasgow's River Festival which is enjoyed by old and young alike. There is a distinct martial flavour, with many naval vessels on show including the tall ship 'Glenlee', built in 1896 at Port Glasgow. A programme of children's shows is staged including a walkabout, a magic show on deck and a treasure hunt. On dry land there is music and street entertainment and the Royal Marines perform displays showcasing their abseiling skills.
