MAIN ATTRACTIONS

The Kelvingrove Hotel, situated in Glasgow city centre on world famous Sauchiehall Street, is ideally situated as a convenient base when visiting any of Glasgow’s many tourist attractions. Only minutes walk from Glasgow University and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum you’ll find the Kelvingrove friendly, welcoming and competitively priced.

You might choose to see a show at one of Glasgow’s many entertainment venues or to visit some of the many museums and galleries in the city, most of which are free. If shopping is your thing Glasgow offers the best choice of shops in the UK outside of London.

MUSEUMS & GALLERIES (Mostly Free)

The City of Glasgow owns one of the richest collections in Europe museums and galleries across the city.

Admission to many sites is free, although some that aren't run by the City Council have a nominal entrance fee. There is something in Glasgow museums and galleries for everyone, and children are particularly welcome.


MUSEUMS & GALLERIES - Charles Rennie MacKintosh

Artist, architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868 -1928) is one of Glasgow's most famous sons. He is celebrated around the world as one of the most creative figures of the early 20th Century and Glasgow - Mackintosh’s home city - houses the a vast collection of his buildings, drawings and designs which played a key role in shaping European Art Nouveau.

MACKINTOSH TRAIL TICKET

Take advantage of the new one-day Mackintosh Trail Ticket, at a cost of £12.00 per person. The Ticket can be purchased at Glasgow Tourist Information Centres, SPT Travel Centres and all participating Mackintosh venues in and around Glasgow.

The Trail Ticket has been developed to make it even easier for visitors to enjoy all the Mackintosh attractions whilst travelling in a sustainable way. The one-day Mackintosh Trail Ticket allows visitors unlimited travel on SPT Subway, First bus services and includes entry to all participating Mackintosh attractions. The trail ticket is a passport to attractions such as The Mackintosh House, The Lighthouse, Glasgow School of Art, House for an Art Lover, The Hill House, The Mackintosh Church and Scotland Street School.

SHOPPING

SAUCHIEHALL STREET

The most famous road in Glasgow, Sauchiehall Street runs east west from Buchanan Street and the Buchanan Galleries through to Charing Cross and its junction with the M8 motorway. Established in 1807, its name means the "hollow of the willows" and referred to the original place it was created. It was the main shopping thoroughfare in the city during the 19th Century
It is pedestrianised from its eastern end and forms a pedestrianised route from here down Buchanan Street and onto Argyle Street. Along the street can be found the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the McLellan Galleries and Charing Cross.

BUCHANAN GALLERIES

Located at the junction of Buchanan Street with Sauchiehall Street, the Buchanan Galleries offers over 70 stores arranged over three floors, anchored by the John Lewis Department store, and parking for over 2000 cars. Located adjacent to it is the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
The Galleries are served by Buchanan Bus Station to the north Queen Street Station to the south east and Buchanan Street Underground Station to the south.

SAINT ENOCH CENTRE

Located on the site of the former St Enoch Railway Station, between the River Clyde and Argyle Street, the St Enoch Shopping Centre is the largest glass covered shopping centre in Europe. Opened in 1990, the centre contains more than 80 shops over two floors, parking spaces for several thousand cars and Scotland's largest food court. In total, the centre represents 65,030 sq.m (700,000 sq. feet) of retail space. Buchanan Street lies to the north.
